13.

When the three Masters had flown down from Avion earlier that morning, they hadn’t really thought about what they’d eat or drink on their journey. But if you had asked them to guess, not a single one of the heroes would have imagined they’d be sitting down for tea with the most powerful dragon in Eternia. Granamyr, as it turned out, had no interest in fighting. All she wanted was to keep her family of firebreathers safe from harm.

Once He-Man laid down his sword and transformed into Adam, her mood changed completely. Instead of attacking the suddenly weakened champion, she’d turned into a most gracious host and invited the three Masters inside for a late-morning snack. Now the four of them sat around a large stone table as the younger dragons flitted about, delivering cookies, cakes, and pots of absolutely scalding tea. Both Battle Cat and Ram Ma’am had powered down as well, reverting to their usual forms. Granamyr sat on a high-backed chair, but the three friends were too small for the remaining seats. The dragons had flown Krass and Adam up to the table’s edge, where they sat with their legs crossed before mugs as big as bathtubs. Cringer had leaped up on his own—he grumbled that he wasn’t so old that he couldn’t jump anymore.

The table was set with the largest desserts any of them had ever seen. A square of lemon cake stood as high as Adam’s chest. The layer of vanilla frosting on top was as thick as the biggest books in Grayskull’s library. And the cookies and tea biscuits were enormous, too. Krass actually lay down flat on the table beside one of the chocolate cookies to prove that it was as wide as she was tall. Transforming into He-Man tended to stoke Adam’s appetite, and he nearly ate half the giant piece of cake himself.

Normally, Cringer wasn’t one for sweets, but not even the tiger could resist swiping a paw through some of the frosting for a taste test. When he finished licking his lips and cleaning his metallic claws, he addressed their host. “I should say again that we are sorry for charging into your land unannounced, Granamyr,” the tiger said, “but this is an emergency.”

Two dragons flew over to the table carrying another teapot. They hovered skillfully above the table, then tipped it forward, pouring a dark, steaming brew into Granamyr’s cup. After her first careful sip, the dragon placed her cup down and asked Cringer to tell him about the emergency. As Krass and Adam worked through the giant desserts, the tiger told Granamyr everything they knew about the powerful Pelleezean odor that was ruining farms across Eternia, including the role of the Eternia 2000, their fear that Skeletor could use the stench to his advantage, and their history with Odiphus and the legendary Moss Man.

When Cringer finished, Granamyr sat back and sighed.

Adam swallowed down his last bite of cake.

Krass belched. “Excuse me,” she apologized.

“That’s perfectly excusable,” Granamyr replied. Then she turned to one side and burped out a ball of flame.
